Dress. Smooth calfskin and Italian aniline, narrow, clean edge, low shine. This is the belt for a suit or a sport coat. Black and burgundy do the most work.
Casual. Tumbled and shrunken calfskin, bridle, suede, harness. Wider straps, visible stitching, more color. This is the group most guys buy from twice.
Golf. Stretch and soft calfskin in colors that hold up next to a golf shirt. They give when you swing and they don't dig in when you're sitting in a cart for four hours.
Exotic. Real skins. American alligator, caiman, and ostrich, graded and matched by hand, which is why no two are the same and why they run $400 and up. These are the belts people ask about.
Embossed Exotic. Calfskin stamped with an alligator, hornback, or crocodile grain. It is calfskin, and we'll always say so. It gets you the texture for around a hundred dollars instead of five hundred, and it wears like calf, which is to say very well.
Woven & Stretch. Italian woven rayon with leather tabs. It moves when you do, it forgives a big lunch, and there are no holes to line up. Popular in summer for a reason.
Braided. Italian braided leather, some of it woven with linen. The prong goes through anywhere in the weave, so you get the fit you actually want instead of the closest hole.
Game Day. Woven stretch in school color combinations. Burnt orange and white, maroon and grey, purple and gold, and a dozen more. If your team's colors are in here, you already know.
Extended Sizes. Big and tall sizing, same leathers and same construction, up through 54. It's its own collection because past 44 is where most brands quit, and we didn't want you hunting.
Shop by leather
Calfskin is the workhorse. Tight grain, takes a polish, ages slowly and evenly. Ours runs from soft Italian calf to shrunken and tumbled finishes with real texture.
Alligator is the top of the category. American gator, matched tile to tile, with the price that comes with it.
Caiman gets you a genuine crocodilian skin at a fraction of alligator. The tiles are smaller and harder, with more visible ridging.
Ostrich is the quill pattern everybody recognizes. It's also one of the softest exotics, and it stays soft.
Bison has a big open pebble to it. It scuffs, and the scuffs look good.
Suede wants dry weather and a brush. Worth it for what it does next to khaki and denim.
Woven leather is strips of calf woven by hand into a strap. It breathes, it gives, and it's the one that looks best with linen in August.
A note on tanning. Vegetable-tanned leather is the kind that develops a patina. It takes months to tan, it darkens with sun and with the oil off your hands, and a cognac strap ends up nothing like the day it arrived. Chrome-tanned leather is faster to produce, holds up better to water, and keeps its color and finish for years. Neither one is the good one. A black dress belt has a different job, and that job is not looking ten years old. The product page says which is which.
Who makes these
We're opening with Torino Leather, who has been cutting and finishing belts in the United States for decades. More makers are coming. Every product page tells you who made the thing and where, and that isn't going to change as the list grows. A belt is cut from a full hide or it isn't, and you should be able to find out which without emailing anybody.
Getting the size right
Order two inches up from your pant waist. If you wear a 34 trouser, buy a 36 belt. That puts you on the middle hole, which leaves room in both directions.
If you're between sizes, or the pant-size rule has burned you before, go measure a belt you already like. Lay it flat. Measure from the fold at the buckle to the hole you actually use, not to the end of the tail. That number in inches is your belt size. Ignore whatever is stamped on the back of the old one, because that's often the strap length instead of the fit. The rest is in our size guide.
Care is not complicated
Rotate your belts. Leather needs a day off the same way shoes do, and a belt worn every single day fatigues at the buckle fold first.
Wipe dust off with a dry cloth. Condition a smooth leather belt about twice a year, and use very little, because too much conditioner darkens leather permanently. Brush suede, don't oil it. If a belt gets soaked, let it dry away from heat.
Store belts rolled or hung flat. Folding one over a hook puts a crease exactly where you don't want one. More in our care guide.

Where are these belts made?
We're launching with Torino Leather, handcrafted in the United States, often from hides tanned in Italy. As we add makers, the brand and country stay listed on every product page.
What's the difference between exotic and embossed exotic?
Exotic belts are real skins: alligator, caiman, ostrich. Embossed exotic belts are calfskin stamped with that grain pattern. The embossed ones start around $95 and the real skins run $400 and up. Both are labeled plainly, and we never call embossed calf an exotic.
Which belts develop a patina?
The vegetable-tanned and aniline-finished ones. Chrome-tanned leather, woven stretch, and most exotic skins hold their original color instead. The tanning method is on the product page.
Can I swap the buckle?
On most of them, yes. The buckle attaches with snaps at the tab, so straps and buckles can be mixed as long as the width matches.
What do these cost?
Most belts fall between $75 and $155. Real exotic skins run $400 to $575. Shipping is free on orders over $100.
How long will one of these last?
Worn in rotation and kept out of the dryer, a decade is normal. Worn every day, less. Leather is a material, not a promise.
